To create a Facebook Page, start from your personal profile: click Pages, then Create Page, and give it a name and a category. The bio, contact details, photos and action button are optional at that point. Three things the create flow never asks for come next: a username, a second person with full control, and a linked Instagram account.

You need that personal profile first: Meta says you must have one to create a Page or help manage one. Our guide to using Facebook compares profiles, Pages and groups, and what a fan page is explains the old name for one.

Can’t create a new Facebook Page? Meta’s troubleshooting article (checked 2 October 2026) says new or restricted accounts may not be able to, and that your account should be verified with an email address or phone number. A message that you’ve created too many Pages recently means you’ve reached the limit for that time period; the article gives no number. Two Pages for one business by accident? You may be able to merge Facebook Pages.

How to name your Facebook Page (Meta’s rules)

Name the Page exactly as customers know the business, and keep descriptions for the About section. Meta’s own examples of good names are plain: Hungry Bear Coffee, Allstar Locksmith, Caring Hearts Daycare. Names with symbols or unusual capitalization may be rejected, so check the rules before you click Create.

Do:

  • Use a name that accurately reflects the Page.
  • Capitalize normally. All capitals are allowed only for acronyms.
  • Put slogans and descriptions in the About section.

Don’t use:

  • “Official”, unless it’s the official Page of that brand, place, organization or public figure.
  • Symbols such as ®, or unnecessary punctuation.
  • Abusive terms, or anything that violates someone’s rights.
  • Any variation of “Facebook”, “Meta” or another Meta product’s name.
  • Only a general word (Meta’s example: Pizza) or only a general place (New York).

Checked against Facebook Help Center: Guidelines for Facebook Page names.

Changing the name later is a request that someone with Facebook access submits from Settings > Page setup > Name, and it doesn’t change your username. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Change your Facebook Page's name

How to set your Page username

The username sits under the Page name and becomes its web address (facebook.com/username). Anyone with Facebook access to the Page can create it, but only on a computer; Meta’s app articles send you there. The rules:

  • At least 5 characters.
  • Letters A–Z, numbers 0–9 and periods only, with no generic terms or domain endings such as .com.
  • Unique. Periods and capitals don’t count, so johnsmith55 and John.Smith55 are the same username.
  • One per Page, and it must not impersonate anyone.

Checked against Facebook Help Center: Guidelines for creating a custom username or screen name on Facebook.

On a computer:

  1. Log into Facebook, then click your profile photo in the top right.
  2. Click See all profiles, then select the Page you want to switch into.
  3. Click your Page's profile picture in the top right.
  4. Click Settings & privacy, then click Settings.
  5. In the left menu, click Page setup.
  6. Click Name, then click Edit next to your username.
  7. Enter a username.
  8. If the username is available, click Save changes.

Checked against Facebook Help Center: Create a username for your Facebook Page.

A new Page may have to wait for a username, especially if you’ve created several Pages recently. Once set, it can be removed if the Page is inactive, and it can only be changed on a computer. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Change your Page's username and web address

Add a second person with full control

Meta automatically deactivates a Page left without at least one person holding Facebook access with full control, and schedules it for deletion. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Delete or cancel deletion of your Facebook Page If you’re the only one with full control and your account is deactivated, the Page is deactivated too.

Checked against Facebook Help Center: Deactivate or reactivate your Facebook Page.

Meta’s Give, edit or remove Facebook Page access article (checked 2 October 2026) gives the route. On a computer, switch into the Page, open Settings & privacy > Settings > Page setup > Page access, and click Add New next to People with Facebook access. Choose the person, select them for full control, click Give Access and confirm with your password. In the iPhone and Android apps, switch in from Menu > Pages; there the option reads Allow this person to have full control. The person accepts from an email invitation.

Pick someone you trust: full control means the same access as you, including removing anyone (you included) or deleting the Page. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Create and manage a Facebook Page If the last person with full control no longer has an active account, Meta’s route back is a Page admin dispute.

Connect Instagram and a business portfolio

Connect Instagram from the Page’s settings: Settings > Linked accounts > Instagram > Connect account. Meta lists Facebook access or task access as the requirement, but these steps start by switching into the Page, which only Facebook access can do; Meta notes that the professional account you connect will be public. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Connect or disconnect an Instagram account and your Page Our guide to linking Facebook to Instagram has the steps for every device.

Using Meta Business Suite? Add the Page to your business portfolio, which older guides call Business Manager, from Settings > Pages; you need full control of the portfolio. Your business then owns the Page, people who already had access keep it, and Meta says to add a linked Instagram account too. Checked against Meta Business Help Center: Add a Facebook Page to your organization's business portfolio in Meta Business Suite Two Pages must also share a portfolio before they can be merged. Frequently asked questions

How do I create a Facebook Page for my business?

From your profile on a computer, click Pages, then Create Page, select Public Page, click Next, then Get Started. Add the name, category and an optional bio, then click Create Page. Contact info, photos, the action button, WhatsApp and invites come next, and they can all wait.

Do I need a personal profile to create a Facebook Page?

Yes. Meta says you must have a profile to create a Page or help manage one, and anyone with a Facebook account can create a Page. Everyone who helps run it needs their own profile and access to the Page.

Is creating a Facebook Page free?

Yes. Meta’s business help lists Pages as free, like profiles and groups. Pages are also the only one of the three that can advertise, and ads are optional.

How do I create a Facebook Page on my phone?

In the Facebook app, tap Menu, then Pages, then Create, and select Create a new Page. Add the name, pick a category and tap Create, then add a bio, contact info and photos, invite friends, choose notification settings and tap Done. Meta lists the same steps for iPhone and Android.

How many Facebook Pages can I create?

Meta’s troubleshooting article gives no fixed number. A message saying you’ve created too many Pages recently means you’ve reached the limit for that time period, and new or restricted accounts may not be able to create Pages at all.
