A Facebook marketing strategy for a small team fits on one page: (1) set one goal, (2) know your audience, (3) set up your Page properly, (4) choose a reels-first content mix, (5) plan a month ahead and post on a rhythm, (6) reply and build community, and (7) measure and adjust.

None of the seven needs an ad budget, and each follows advice Meta publishes for Pages. Prefer a worksheet? Our free social media strategy template turns eight questions into a one-page strategy and a 90-day plan. New to Facebook for business? Start with how to use Facebook.

What is a Facebook marketing strategy?

A Facebook marketing strategy is a short written plan for what your business posts on Facebook, who it’s for, how often you post and how you’ll judge the results. Meta’s own answer to “How do I use Facebook for marketing?” has four steps: create a business Page, chat with customers on Messenger, boost a post to reach new audiences, and use Page Insights to learn about your customers.

The seven steps below turn those four into a plan a small team can run, updated for 2026: every video you post to Facebook, Stories and Live aside, is now a reel, and a Page can create and join groups in its own name.

Steps 1-2: Set one goal and know your audience

Pick the one result Facebook should deliver this quarter, then check who you actually reach. One goal keeps every later choice simple, and Meta Business Suite’s Insights > Audience shows who follows your Page today: lifetime followers, age and gender, top cities and top countries.

Step 1: Set one goal

Choose the one number that matters most for the next 90 days: new followers, messages, website visits or event responses. Give it a deadline so Step 7 has a target. Meta’s best practices for reaching more customers include creating an ad with a goal; hold your organic posts to the same rule. Step 2: Know your audience

Describe the people you want to reach, then compare that with who follows you now:

On a computer:

  1. Go to Meta Business Suite > Insights.
  2. Click Audience.

Meta says these metrics are estimates and in development. The tab shows only current followers; the gap between it and your description is what your content has to close.

Step 3: Set up your Page properly

Your Page is the base for everything else, so finish it before you plan a single post. Meta recommends Pages for businesses, organizations and public figures and keeps profiles for personal use. Pages and groups can both hold a business presence for free, but only Pages can advertise.

On a computer, Meta’s Create Page flow takes a name and category, then optional details: a bio, contact info, profile and cover photos, and the action button. Step 4: Choose a reels-first content mix

Build the mix around reels, because every video you post to Facebook, except Stories and Live, is now shared as a reel, whatever its length or orientation. Meta’s advice for Pages is to experiment with reels, posts and stories, including A/B tests and polls or quizzes, and to keep followers engaged with “helpful, informative or entertaining content.”

A workable weekly mix for a small team: one reel, one photo or link post that answers a real customer question, and one post that invites replies. Meta also lists A/B testing content formats among its best practices for reaching more customers, so try strong ideas as both a reel and a photo post. Step 5: Plan a month ahead and post on a rhythm

Set a posting rhythm you can keep in a busy week, then plan a month at a time. Meta’s Planner best practices say to plan a month ahead in Planner, schedule posts, stories, reels and ads in advance, use drafts and duplicates, and give collaborators access. On frequency, Meta’s advice is simply to post regularly.

Checked against Meta Business Help Center: Best practices for using the Planner in Meta Business Suite.

Start from the best time to post on Facebook, then move slots as your Insights show when followers are active. How to schedule Facebook posts walks through Business Suite’s scheduler, and the free content calendar template lays out a month you can export to Google Sheets, Excel, PDF or .ics.

Running the same rhythm beyond Facebook

If Facebook is one of several networks in your plan, Outfeed AI, which publishes this guide, runs the posting rhythm for your Facebook Page and eight other networks from one chat. The limits: on Facebook it publishes text-only, single-photo or single-video posts to Pages only (video goes up as a standard Page video, not through Facebook’s Reels tools), with no Stories or groups; TikTok posts publish as private for now while TikTok reviews the app; and there’s no analytics or inbox, so Steps 6 and 7 stay in Meta Business Suite. Starter is $29 per month billed monthly, a flat price per organization, not per seat.

Step 6: Reply and build community

Answer comments and messages quickly, and give regular customers a place to talk. Meta Business Suite’s Inbox brings Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp messages and comments on your Facebook and Instagram posts into one place, with labels, filters and automations. Meta lists responding to comments and messages among its best practices for deepening relationships with followers.

Write down who answers and how often. For community, a Page can create and join groups; Meta frames a Page’s group as a more private space for customers around a shared interest, and warns that over-selling can drive members away. Checked against Meta Business Help Center: Create or join Groups as a Facebook Page How to use Facebook Groups for marketing covers both routes.

Step 7: Measure and adjust

Once a month, open Insights and check the one number tied to your goal. Insights in Meta Business Suite covers organic and paid results for your Page, with tabs that may include Overview (the past 28 days), Results, Audience and Content. Keep what moved your number and cut what didn’t.

On a computer:

  1. Go to Meta Business Suite.
  2. Click the dropdown menu in the top left and select the Facebook Page or Instagram profile.
  3. Click Insights in the left menu.

Not every account sees every tab, and Meta says some messaging metrics aren’t available for businesses in or reaching Europe and Japan.

Organic or paid Facebook marketing?

Start organic, and add paid reach once a post or offer has proven itself. Meta’s own split is Business Suite for organic scheduling, Inbox, Insights, simple ads and scheduled boosts, and Ads Manager for campaigns with several ad sets, custom audience targeting, ad scheduling, ad A/B tests, retargeting and Shops ads. Meta says you can use both at the same time for different tasks.

FAQ

What is the best Facebook marketing strategy in 2026?

There isn’t one best strategy, but Meta’s own four steps make a solid base: create a business Page, chat with customers on Messenger, boost a post to reach new audiences, and use Page Insights. For 2026, plan around reels: every video posted to Facebook, except Stories and Live, is now shared as a reel.

How do I create a Facebook marketing plan?

Write down seven decisions: one goal, your audience, your Page set-up, a reels-first content mix, a posting rhythm planned a month ahead, who replies to comments and messages, and the Insights number you’ll check monthly. Meta Business Suite’s Insights, Planner and Inbox cover most of them.

Should I use organic posts or Facebook ads?

Start organic and add ads once a post or offer has proven itself. Meta suggests Business Suite for organic scheduling, Inbox, Insights, simple ads and scheduled boosts, and Ads Manager for campaigns with several ad sets, custom audience targeting, ad scheduling, ad A/B tests, retargeting and Shops ads. You can use both at once.

How do I measure Facebook marketing success?

Track the one number tied to your goal, monthly, in Insights: on a computer, go to Meta Business Suite, choose your Page from the dropdown menu in the top left and click Insights. Its tabs may include Overview (the past 28 days), Results, Audience and Content, covering organic and paid results.

What types of content perform best on Facebook?

Test rather than guess. Meta’s advice for Pages is to experiment with reels, posts and stories, including A/B tests and polls or quizzes, and to share helpful, informative or entertaining content. Give reels a regular slot, since every video posted to Facebook, except Stories and Live, is now shared as a reel.
