Can You Have More Than One Facebook Account?
Can you have more than one Facebook account? Not a personal one. Meta allows one personal account per person, and since it stopped new additional profiles, there’s no official way to get a second personal profile either. What Meta offers instead runs from your one account: Pages, pro mode, groups and access to Pages other people own.
Most reasons for wanting a second account, from a side business to running a client’s Page, already have an official route. For how profiles, Pages and groups fit together, see our guide to using Facebook.

Can you have more than one Facebook account?
One personal account per person, and everything else hangs off it. You need a profile to create or help manage a Page or a group, so a Page isn’t a second account; it’s something your account runs. Pro mode isn’t one either: it’s a setting on your profile that lets anyone follow you. Additional profiles, extra profiles under the same account, were the closest thing to a second identity, and Meta no longer lets anyone create them.
So the honest answer to “can I have two Facebook accounts?” is no, followed by a better question: what did you want the second one for? The options table matches each reason to the tool Meta built for it.
What Meta’s rules say about multiple accounts
Two Meta documents say it plainly. The Terms of Service (effective 1 January 2025, checked 2 October 2026) tell you in section 3.1 to “create only one account (your own) and use it for personal purposes.” Meta’s Help Center article Can I create multiple Facebook accounts? adds: “It’s against our Community Standards to maintain more than one personal account.” Checked against Facebook Help Center: Can I create multiple Facebook accounts?
Meta also frames what a profile is for: “a personal profile is for non-commercial use and represents an individual person.” That’s why a business, brand or product belongs on a Page rather than a profile. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Can I create multiple Facebook accounts?
Already have two accounts? Meta’s guidance is to move your information into a single account. If the second one exists because you go by another name, such as a nickname, maiden name or former name, you can add that name to the account you keep.
Meta’s Help Center also describes, in general terms, what happens when any personal account is suspended: you appeal by logging in, within 180 days, and Meta notes that the window varies by region. Without a successful appeal, the account is permanently disabled, and for severe violations an account can be disabled without a suspension first. Checked against Facebook Help Center: My personal Facebook account is suspended or disabled
What happened to additional Facebook profiles?
Meta stopped new ones. Its article about additional Facebook profiles now says: “You are no longer able to create additional Facebook profiles. Existing additional profiles have not been affected.” Meta’s pages give no date for the change and no number of profiles, so be wary of any guide that quotes either one as current. Checked against Facebook Help Center: About additional Facebook profiles
A separately created Facebook account is not an additional profile. It’s a second account, and the one-account rule applies to it in full.
Which official option fits what you need?
Start from what the second account was for. Each of these runs from your one account, and Meta documents every one.
| What you want | Meta’s official option | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| A presence for a business, brand or organization | A Facebook Page | Managed from your personal account; anyone with a Facebook account can create one |
| Public followers as a creator or public figure | Pro mode on your profile, or a Page | Both allow unlimited followers; a profile still caps friends at 5,000 |
| A community around a shared interest | A group | Created and managed from your profile |
| Helping run someone else’s Page | Access to that Page | Facebook access or task access, given to your own account |
| Managing clients’ Pages as an agency | Partner access between business portfolios | The client keeps the asset; your agency needs its own portfolio |

If you already have additional profiles
Existing additional profiles keep working. They share one login with your main profile, but each has its own friends list, Feed and @username. You switch between them from your profile photo, and you can deactivate or delete each one separately in Accounts Center. Meta’s steps below cover two different jobs: the first list switches profiles, and the second deactivates or deletes one.
On a computer, option 1:
- Click your profile photo in the top right of Facebook.
- Click See all profiles.
- Select the profile you want to use.
On a computer, option 2:
- Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
- Click Settings & privacy, then click Settings.
- Click Accounts Center, then click Manage accounts.
- Click Account ownership and control.
- Click Deactivation or deletion.
- Click the additional profile you want to delete or deactivate, then click Continue.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to deactivate or delete your additional profile.
Checked against Facebook Help Center: Delete, deactivate or reactivate an additional Facebook profile.
Before you delete or block anything:
- Deleting is permanent. “Deleting an additional Facebook profile will permanently delete all data for that profile after 30 days.”
- Your main account controls them all. Deleting or deactivating your account also deletes or deactivates every profile under it.
- Menus vary. Depending on your account, Accounts Center shows Manage accounts or Accounts.
- Blocking is per profile. You block from each profile separately, and Meta warns: “If you block someone’s profile from more than one of your profiles, the person you blocked may be able to figure out that you own all of those profiles.” Checked against Facebook Help Center: Block someone's Facebook profile, Page, or nickname
How social media managers should get access to Pages
With their own account and an access role, not with a second account or the owner’s password. Section 3.1 of Meta’s Terms also tells people not to share their password or give others access to their Facebook account without Meta’s permission. Someone with full control of the Page can instead give you Facebook access, with full or partial control, or task access, which works in tools such as Meta Business Suite and Ads Manager. Meta adds that a Page must keep at least one person with Facebook access with full control to stay active. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Create and manage a Facebook Page
If the Page belongs to a business portfolio, someone with full control invites you from the portfolio’s Settings, and you accept before access starts:
On a computer:
- Go to Settings in Meta Business Suite for your business portfolio.
- Click People in the left menu, then Invite people.
- Enter the person's email address (it must match their Facebook account) or select their managed Meta account.
- Click Next, choose business portfolio permissions, then click Next.
- Select business assets and permissions, then click Invite.
Checked against Meta Business Help Center: Add people to a business portfolio and assign a business asset.
Agencies use partner access instead. The client shares assets with the agency’s own business portfolio by entering its portfolio ID, and only the organization that owns an asset can share it with another business portfolio:
On a computer:
- Go to Settings in Meta Business Suite for your business portfolio.
- Click Partners in the Users section of the left menu.
- Click Add, then select Give a partner access to your assets.
- Enter your partner's business portfolio ID and click Next.
- Choose the assets and the access level (and tasks, for partial access), then click Assign assets.
Checked against Meta Business Help Center: Give a partner access to business assets in your business portfolio.
If running several Pages was the reason you wanted a second account, that’s what Outfeed AI is for: it publishes to the Facebook Pages you manage, and to eight other networks (TikTok posts publish as private while TikTok reviews the app), from one login and one chat, posting to Pages only, never to profiles or groups. Our guides to managing multiple social media accounts and social media management for small business cover the wider workflow.

Frequently asked questions
Is it against the rules to have two Facebook accounts?
Yes. Meta’s Terms of Service say to create only one account (your own) and use it for personal purposes, and its Help Center says it’s against the Community Standards to maintain more than one personal account. Pages, pro mode and groups are the official alternatives, and all of them run from your one account.
How many profiles can you have on one Facebook account?
Meta no longer lets anyone create additional profiles, and its help pages give no number for them. Existing additional profiles weren’t affected: they share one login, and each has its own friends list, Feed and @username. For everyone else it’s one profile, with Pages, pro mode and groups as the official ways to add a public presence.
Should I use a Facebook Page instead of a second profile for my business?
Yes. Meta’s sanctioned alternative for a business, brand, organization or product is a Page, managed from your personal account, and it notes that a personal profile is for non-commercial use. Anyone with a Facebook account can create a Page, and a Page can have unlimited followers.
What happens if Facebook finds out you have two accounts?
Meta’s help article on multiple accounts names no specific penalty. It says maintaining more than one personal account is against its Community Standards, and its guidance for anyone with two or more accounts is to move the information into a single account. You can also add another name, such as a nickname or maiden name, to the account you keep.
How do I switch between Facebook profiles?
If you already have additional profiles, click your profile photo in the top right of Facebook, click See all profiles and select the profile you want to use. New additional profiles can no longer be created, so this only applies to profiles you already have.
